The Power of Less: Introducing the Chapter 4 Onyx Flying Tourbillon
In watchmaking, complexity often commands attention — but sometimes, it’s restraint that leaves the lasting impression.
With the new Chapter 4 Onyx Flying Tourbillon, BA111OD explores a radically refined interpretation of its signature complication. A bold evolution from the earlier Onyx Tourbillon, this timepiece strips away everything non-essential to focus on what truly matters: movement, material, and light.
At first glance, it's the dial that draws you in — a slab of natural black onyx, mirror-polished and uninterrupted. Onyx is a variety of chalcedony, a dense, fine-grained form of quartz known for its deep, uniform color and smooth surface. In this context, its rich black tone becomes more than a background — it’s a visual anchor, absorbing light and elevating the tourbillon's presence with dramatic contrast.
Hovering above is a flying tourbillon, its cage free of any upper bridge. Developed in collaboration with Olivier Mory, it appears to float effortlessly, suspended between the stillness of the onyx and the dome of the sapphire crystal. The effect is both technical and poetic: a mechanical heartbeat turning in silence above a dial carved from darkness.
The case is crafted from 904L stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish and sculpted into BA111OD’s signature concave profile. At 41mm, it offers a modern yet balanced presence, enhanced by a domed box sapphire crystal that magnifies the depth and dimensionality of the dial.
Every detail is intentional. There are no hour markers. No printed texts. Even the logo is ton-sur-ton black-on-black, barely visible — a quiet signature for those who know where to look. The result is a timepiece that speaks not through excess, but through its discipline.
No ornamentation. No distraction. Just pure watchmaking, reduced to its most elegant expression.
The Chapter 4 Onyx Flying Tourbillon isn’t simply a watch — it’s a reflection on form, material, and the power of restraint. For those who appreciate the beauty of simplicity and the mastery behind it, this is a piece that resonates long after the first glance.
